Dangerous Goods by Sea

Legislation
International law in the form of the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code, 2010 Edition (IMDG Code) requires all shore-side staff concerned with the transport of dangerous goods by sea to receive training commensurate with their responsibilities, (IMDG Code, Paragraph 1.3.1.1).

Training is required for staff from road vehicle operators, ship operators and port staff, shippers, freight agents and cargo handling agents who manufacture, consign, classify, pack, mark, or label dangerous goods which will be shipped by sea (including road vehicles using ro-ro ferries), prepare transport documents, carry or handle dangerous goods in transit by sea, mark/placard/load/unload packages of dangerous goods into or from road transport vehicles which have bulk packaging or freight containers intended for sea transport, or are otherwise involved in the transport of dangerous goods by sea.

Dangerous Goods by Sea (full 2 day course)
This 2-day Course will enable you to interpret the regulations regarding the transport of Dangerous Goods by Sea. The course covers Legislation, Classification, Packing requirements, Labeling & Plackarding, Marks & Signs, Documentation, Emergency Information, and Limited Quantities. It explores and highlights the relationship between Sea Regulations (IMDG) and European Road Regulations (ADR) essential for those exporting to mainland Europe.

Dangerous Goods by Sea one-day ‘Top-Up’ course (New for 2010)
This course is for students who already hold a valid Dangerous Goods by Air Certificate. (Note; If you do not hold a TrainingTeam DG by Air Certificate please provide a copy of your certificate at time of booking).

Increasingly, our clients are finding that it is necessary to be dangerous goods qualified in the three principle modes of transport - air, road and sea.  To obtain these qualifications, it has, until now, been necessary to attend each full initial course. However, because of the considerable amount of common ground now applying to these courses (Air, Road, Sea), we have designed two one day top-up days (one for road and one for sea) to follow a scheduled DG by Air course. This results in a useful reduction in cost and, perhaps more importantly for many clients, a reduction in the time a student is away from the workplace as it saves three days in the classroom.  On passing the end-of-course exam a separate DG by Sea certificate will be issued.  Normal revalidation rules will apply to each certificate.

Notes: Students requiring a DG by Sea Certificate only must still attend the full two day DG by Sea course.

Dangerous Goods by Sea Retraining
The I
MDG Code also makes it clear that the initial training should be "… periodically supplemented with refresher training …". Holders of a valid DG by Sea Certificate may attend the full 2-day course for a reduced price in order to meet this requirement - provided that a copy of the Certificate is produced at the time of booking. We recommend that candidates attend retraining at approximately 2-year intervals.

Combined Dangerous Goods by Road and Sea Course  (Available 'In-House' at client's premises only)
The above Dangerous Goods by Sea course may be combined with our Dangerous Goods by Road course and delivered over a single 4-day period. This gives a useful saving of 1 day over the 5 days normally required to obtain both qualifications. Please note, however, that candidates requiring the road qualification would need to attend all 4 days.
