General Security Awareness Training (GSAT)
Why
is this training required?
Department for Transport Direction (12j)
states that all staff who require
access to the Restricted Zone (that is who require an airside
staff pass) must first attend General Security Awareness
Training (GSAT) run by an instructor approved by the DfT.
The DfT have specified the scope and content of the training
and the duration of the course.
All other staff are in scope and include, for example,
airside office workers, airline and other operational staff
who go airside, including passenger staff, cargo staff
, drivers, airline engineering
and maintenance staff, loaders, refuellers etc., shop,
catering, and other commercial staff, building engineers, shopfitters, public service staff, etc., etc., etc.
In short all staff who
require an airside pass.
Existing airside pass holders have until 19 January 2009 to comply. New applicants for airside passes, and staff renewing an existing pass, must comply now.
What will the training cover?
The training will cover the following:
- The Threat to Aviation
- Objectives and Organisation of
Aviation Security
- Restricted Zone Protection and Access
Control
- Prohibited Articles
- The Trainees Role in Aviation Security
The student will be tested on the above as part of the
course and on attaining the required standard will be issued
with a named and numbered Certificate of Attendance.
Where can I get this training?
TrainingTeam have developed classroom training to meet

similar approved courses for security and other staff and
takes approximately two hours. Classroom training has the

Who is exempt?
Certain staff listed below, if they have already attended
a similar kind of DfT Directed training specific to their role, are
exempt.
- Aircrew and Aircrew Instructors

Managers and Instructors
- In-Flight Caterers (who
have attended Directed catering security training)
- Cargo Operatives
(who have received Directed Cargo Security training)
- Aviation Security Staff and Supervisors
