General Security Awareness Training (GSAT)

Why is this training required?

Department for Transport Direction (12j) states that all staff who require access to the Restricted Zone (that is who require an airside staff pass) must first attend General Security Awareness Training (GSAT) run by an instructor approved by the DfT. The DfT have specified the scope and content of the training and the duration of the course.

All other staff are in scope and include, for example, airside office workers, airline and other operational staff who go airside, including passenger staff, cargo staff , drivers, airline engineering and maintenance staff, loaders, refuellers etc., shop, catering, and other commercial staff, building engineers, shopfitters, public service staff, etc., etc., etc. In short all staff who require an airside pass.

Existing airside pass holders have until 19 January 2009 to comply. New applicants for airside passes, and staff renewing an existing pass, must comply now.

What will the training cover?
The training will cover the following:

The student will be tested on the above as part of the course and on attaining the required standard will be issued with a named and numbered Certificate of Attendance.
